A person holding a Category C driving licence is entitled to drive goods vehicles with a maximum permissible mass exceeding 3,500 kg.

A trailer with a maximum permissible mass of no more than 750 kg may be attached to these vehicles.

The training is structured on a modular basis and includes both theoretical and practical training.

The training period is 20 days (when practical lessons are taken regularly), but no less than 12 days.

Theoretical Training

The theoretical training includes:

– Transportation of Goods – 8 training hours

– General Structure of Category C Motor Vehicles – 6 training hours

During the 8 training hours, you will learn:

1. Rules governing the working hours of vehicle crews engaged in the transportation of goods and the use of tachographs.

2. Rules relating to the transportation of goods; documents required for domestic and international transportation of goods.

3. Factors related to the type of cargo carried by the vehicle that affect road safety. Loading and unloading equipment.

4. Contracts for the transportation of goods.

5. Vehicle requirements related to the transportation of goods. Field of vision depending on the vehicle's dimensions.

6. Procedures to follow in the event of a road traffic accident and knowledge of the measures to be taken depending on the type and nature of the cargo being transported. Safety precautions when removing and replacing wheels.

During the 6 training hours, you will learn:

1. The main assemblies, components, and systems of Category C motor vehicles, their location and purpose.

2. Carrying out mandatory daily inspections and basic maintenance operations to keep a Category C motor vehicle in good technical condition.

3. Basic safety rules.

The theoretical training is considered completed when the candidate has attended at least 70% of the training hours scheduled for each module.

Practical Training

During the 20 practical training lessons, you will learn:

1. Preparing a Category C motor vehicle for safe operation.

2. Using the vehicle controls and manoeuvring a Category C motor vehicle.

3. Safely driving a Category C motor vehicle under various road conditions.

After completing the mandatory training, candidates take exams before the Regional Automobile Administration Office (former DAI) for each of the two modules.

Requirements and Documents

The applicant must be at least 21 years old (18 years old, provided that the applicant holds a professional qualification certificate – professional competence obtained after completing the required training course)
Diploma or certificate confirming completion of higher, secondary, or basic education (8th grade) before 26 September 2017, or a certificate of completion of the first stage of secondary education (10th grade). This document will be required by the Traffic Police Department when adding the category to your Driving Licence.

Medical certificate confirming physical fitness for Category C
