A Category B driving licence allows you to drive passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and goods vehicles with an automatic transmission only, with a maximum permissible mass, including the load, of up to 3.5 tonnes and with up to 9 seats.

The course includes both theoretical and practical training. Driving training takes place on a training ground, in built-up areas, and outside built-up areas.

To start a Category B driving course, you must be at least 17 years and 9 months old.

For individuals who completed their basic education in the Republic of Bulgaria after 26 September 2017, a document confirming completion of at least the first stage of secondary education is required (certificate of completion of 10th grade).

For individuals who completed their education in another country, a certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and Science under Article 11, Paragraph 2 of Ordinance No. 11 is required.

Theoretical Training

The theoretical training includes:

1. General Structure of the Vehicle

2. Road Safety

The theoretical training is delivered using multimedia and covers 19 topics taught over 38 hours, scheduled across two or four weeks depending on the type of course (accelerated or standard), along with 31 driving lessons.

During 36 hours, you will study the Road Traffic Act and its implementing regulations, while the remaining 2 hours will give you the opportunity to learn about the structure of the vehicle.

Practical Training

The practical training consists of:

1. Developing proficiency in operating the vehicle's controls;

2. Training on a practice ground in starting, stopping, manoeuvring, and parking.

3. Consolidating the knowledge and skills required to drive a motor vehicle in various road and weather conditions.

4. Developing the skills required to drive a car under specific conditions:

  • Training ground
  • Heavy urban traffic
  • Night driving
  • Driving outside built-up areas and on motorways

The student can choose driving lesson times at different times of the day to develop better skills and driving habits. Students can also choose the area in which they would like to take their driving lessons.

Each practical training lesson lasts 50 minutes. At the beginning and end of each lesson, a briefing and analysis of the student's performance are conducted, for a total of 10 minutes. A maximum of 2 practical training lessons may be taken per day. Driving lessons are scheduled according to your availability and the instructor's schedule.

The training period is between 1 and 3 months, depending on the frequency of the practical lessons, as well as the timely and successful completion of the theory and practical exams.

If a student fails an exam before the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” (EA “AA” / former DAI), they are required to complete 4 additional driving lessons.

Exams

After completing the theoretical training, each candidate is registered by the training center to take the external theory exam before the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” (EA “AA”).

The external theory exam is taken on an electronic device – a tablet. Candidates complete one test consisting of 45 questions, with no more than 10 penalty points allowed.

The external practical exam consists of driving a Category B motor vehicle in a built-up area for a minimum of 25 minutes.

Accelerated and Express Courses

For those who are short on time or eager to get their driving licence as quickly as possible, we offer accelerated and express courses. The accelerated course lasts 37 days, while the express course lasts 30 days.

Our training centers have dedicated practice areas where, together with your instructor, you can develop your initial vehicle control and driving skills before beginning lessons in urban traffic.

They are located in close proximity to the training centers.

At the training grounds, you will learn:

  1. Starting and stopping.
  2. Left, right, and U-turns.
  3. Hill starts.
  4. Reversing.
  5. Driving in confined spaces.
  6. Weaving between obstacles.
  7. Forward and reverse parking – parallel to the road.

They are located in close proximity to the training centers.

The applicant must be at least 17 years and 9 months old
Medical certificate confirming physical fitness for Category B
Diploma or certificate confirming completion of higher, secondary, or basic education (8th grade) before 26 September 2017, or a certificate of completion of the first stage of secondary education (10th grade). This document will be required by the Traffic Police Department when your Driving Licence is issued.
