Category "D" Driving Courses

A person holding a Category D driving licence is entitled to drive vehicles, excluding trolleybuses, designed for the transport of more than 8 passengers in addition to the driver. A trailer with a maximum permissible mass of no more than 750 kg may be attached to such vehicles.

Category D also includes articulated buses. Attaching a trailer to articulated buses is prohibited.

The training is structured on a modular basis and includes both theoretical and practical training.

The training period is 12 days (when practical lessons are taken regularly), but no less than 10 days.

Theoretical Training

The theoretical training includes:

– Passenger Transportation

During the 8 training hours, you will learn:

1. Rules relating to passenger transportation. Documents required for domestic and international passenger transportation.

2. Transport routes. Types of bus transportation.

3. Passenger transportation contracts.

4. Vehicle requirements related to passenger transportation.

5. Procedures to follow in the event of a road traffic accident and knowledge of the measures to be taken in relation to the passengers being transported.

The theoretical training is considered completed when the candidate has attended all modules.

If the candidate holds only a Category B driving licence with at least two years of driving experience, the theoretical training consists of 14 hours.

Practical Training

During the 16 practical training lessons, you will learn:

1. Preparing a Category D motor vehicle for safe operation.

2. Using the vehicle controls and manoeuvring a Category D motor vehicle.

3. Safely driving a Category D motor vehicle under various road conditions.

If the candidate holds only a Category B driving licence with at least two years of driving experience, the practical training consists of 36 hours.

After completing the mandatory training, candidates take exams before the Regional Automobile Administration Office (former DAI) for each of the two modules.

Requirements and Documents

The applicant must have at least 2 years of driving experience with Category B (the experience period begins on the date the Driving Licence is issued by the Traffic Police Department).

Diploma or certificate confirming completion of higher, secondary, or basic education (8th grade) before 26 September 2017. This document will be required by the Traffic Police Department when adding the category to your Driving Licence.

Driving licence with at least Category B.

Certificate of psychological fitness (psychological assessment) for Category D.

Medical certificate confirming physical fitness for Category D.

Passport-size photo.

Identity card.
